Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire in Montreal's West Island is a small, little town that is a bit sleepy. This part of the island known as West Island can be confusing to those unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island located that lies west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities that are Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often known as the place where she was born. However, she only resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel grew to be a young woman within Courtice Ontario just outside Oshawa. She wanted to become a professional dancer but because of a huge increase in her height, she outgrew every dance partner she met. An article in the Toronto Star article revealed she's six feet tall, with heels. When I grew out of male companions, that's when I gave up. Some former dancers switch into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was the nudge of a high school drama teacher which pushed her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she pursue a role for the school's annual production. Following a trial her options, she was eventually the main character for Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. Through the years that followed, Brugel has landed roles on more than 60 productions across the big and small screens drawing the most media attention after she was offered the character in the role of Rita in the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale (pictured below). Brugel, the only Canadian in the season 1 cast of the show as well as appearing only on occasion, was the sole Canadian.
